MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Hal Dickson
Some of you may know long-time UTA member Hal Dickson. He’s been a part of the UTA and its convention committee for many years. After working for Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks for over 3 decades, he decided to retire in May 2024. During Hal’s career at the Volvo Group, he worked in the new truck sales as well as the used trucks. However, he spent the majority of his time in used truck remarketing.

After retirement, Hal missed his pals in the industry. Plus, we have it on good authority that his wife didn’t want him hanging around the house any longer and “managing things”. So now, he’s begun working at Alliance Drive Away Solutions. About his new position, Hal said: “Alliance is a company with great ownership, a quality organization that strives for the best for their customers and they had a position available that was a perfect fit for me."
Hal is working on new business development and looking forward to connecting with those in the truck industry.
If you’d like to catch up with Hal, you can email him at hdickson@alliancedriveaway.com from here on out.

We're thrilled to announce several new initiatives designed to bring added value to UTA members and attract both new and returning participants to our community. Here are some highlights of what’s in the works:
1) Captive Insurance Program
We’ve received strong interest from insurance carriers in developing a captive insurance company or program tailored specifically for our driveaway companies. Over the next 30 days, we’ll be meeting with these companies to move this initiative forward, aiming to provide innovative solutions to address their unique needs. 2) Open Lot Policy with Comprehensive Coverage
Many independent truck dealers and wholesalers in the UTA have expressed the need for a competitive open lot insurance policy that includes protection against hail and windstorms—two significant concerns for our members. We’re working to make this a reality and deliver a robust coverage option to the community. 3) Cyber Insurance Policy with Enhanced Security Features
We’re excited to offer a Cyber Insurance Policy through partnerships with several insurance providers. This program will not only provide comprehensive cyber risk coverage but will also include complimentary security technology and software to simplify the process for members seeking this vital protection.
How to Get Involved:
We encourage members to contact us directly and share their data with us to help finalize the development of these programs. Our goal is to collaborate with your current insurance agent if you prefer, ensuring that we provide the best possible coverage and pricing options for your needs.
Our focus remains on delivering value and solutions that meet the evolving needs of UTA members. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to discuss these programs or share feedback to help shape our efforts.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to growing stronger together!

USED TRUCK MARKET REVIEW & FORECAST
Used Trucks Had a Lot to Be Thankful for in November
Following October’s mixed preliminary results, November was a very good month. Preliminary Class 8 same dealer used truck retail sales volumes held pretty steady, slipping 1.3% m/m. Given that typical seasonality called for a decrease of 18% m/m, the small dip was a big win. Preliminary auction activity declined from October (-11%) while wholesale transactions forged ahead (+7.0%). Combined, sales fell 4.7% m/m. While it is too soon to know for certain, it is possible that fleets waiting on presidential election results may have been a part of the driving force behind better-than-expected sales volumes. Sandhills Global Market Reports Show Auction Value Trends for Equipment, Trucks, and Trailers for Year-End Sales The latest Sandhills Global market reports highlight inventory, auction value, and pricing trends for used trucks, trailers, and equipment in Sandhills’ U.S. marketplaces. In the used heavy-duty truck market, inventory trends continue to diverge, with day cab inventory steadily increasing while sleeper truck inventory decreases.

NTP/Premium 2000 Sponsors Wreaths Across America Since 2021, NTP has sponsored the efforts by Wreaths Across America (WAA) to decorate millions of military gravesites across the US at the holidays. On December 14, WAA held their annual National Wreath Laying ceremony placing over 3 million wreaths at over 4,800 cemeteries to honor our fallen veterans. NTP associates participated in the wreath laying at two cemeteries in Winston Salem, NC. For the first time, wreaths were laid at every military gravesite at both locations thanks to the nearly 200 wreaths bought through the NTP sponsorship. Also, $5 from every wreath bought goes to the WAA Transportation Fund to support the 600+ owner operators and fleet drivers who donate their time and truck to make the wreath deliveries. The WAA sponsorship is part of NTP’s We Value Our Veterans program that honors military veterans who have died, and supports living veterans who are acclimating back into our society after their service. We appreciate the generous contributions from our associates, dealer partners, and friends who support us each year. The 2025 effort is already “live” and you can contribute HERE or contact Tim Ronan at tronan@ntpco.com. We also applaud several UTA dealers and members who support WAA each year.
